Public to receive free Presidential Golden Dollars
All 2007 and 2008 Presidential Golden Dollars go free to public getting remaining unsearched rollsThe Presidential Golden Dollar presses shut down at all U.S. Mints after only 13 weeks of minting of the Martin Van Buren Golden Dollars. This permanent halt of the Van Buren Dollars was forced by public law amidst numerous debates on Capitol Hill.
Once the presses were shut down, the Presidential Golden Dollar series changed forever. And what caused these extraordinary steps? In addition to Public Law 109-145, rare minting errors surfaced whereby the inscription “In GOD We Trust” was missing from the unique coin edging.
These few rare errors caused much public uproar and numerous accusations that the Federal Government was removing GOD from our coinage. Capitol Hill made immediate changes to the Presidential Golden Dollar program demanding “In GOD We Trust” appear on the obverse or reverse of the coin where less minting errors would take place.
However misguided the accusations were, the U.S. Mint® was compelled to change the entire program going forward. As such, a rush on the old coins, including the eight designs already released, has taken hold of the reserved stockpile in the private United States Commemorative Gallery vaults.
The vault doors have been opened and readers can get complete, unbroken rolls of the first eight Presidential Golden Dollars.

Then each coin is placed in individual clear protective capsules and sealed by vault experts trained in handling precious collectibles. The expert technicians wear white cotton gloves so each coin remains untouched by human hand.
