These coins are so rare, because of low mintage and lack of circulation, that they have become valued collectors' pieces. In fact, the U.S. Mint® has halted the production of the early released coins and they are no longer being minted.

Each and every Presidential Golden Dollar design boasts a unique portrait of each of our nation's great leaders. In addition to the authentic sculpted likeness, each President's name and term of office is inscribed on the obverse of the golden dollar coin.
In an unusual twist on the typical design of United States coinage, the United States Mint® has added deep inscriptions into the rim edge of each coin. For the first time since the early solid gold coins of the mid 1800s, rim inscriptions are being used for the mandated phrases 'In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum." In 2009, "In God We Trust" was moved to the obverse following public outcry. Here you will also find the minting year and U.S. mint mark initial.
Each of these collectible coins will be sealed in the exclusive Gallery-approved Protective Capsule to ensure their valued condition. Over time, oils from your skin, cigarette smoke, humidity and even plain air can damage the condition of coins, discolor the rich golden color and substantially decrease their value.
